Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Mechanic to oversee and maintain the performance of cranes and other heavy-duty machinery. The Lead Mechanic will lead a team of technicians, perform hands-on repairs, and ensure that all equipment is in optimal working condition to support operational productivity. The ideal candidate will have expertise in mechanical systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics, and will possess leadership qualities to manage a team effectively

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree in a related field preferred).
  • Proven experience (5+ years) working as a mechanic, with a focus on cranes and heavy-duty machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performing repairs on large-scale machinery.
  • Previous leadership experience or team management is highly preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Valid driver’s license and any relevant certifications (e.g., crane operator, OSHA).
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in physically demanding environments, and handle occasional outdoor conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Supervision:
    • Supervise and mentor a team of mechanics, ensuring high standards of work and safety are upheld.
    • Assign tasks and set priorities based on operational requirements.
    • Provide training and development to junior mechanics and technicians.
    • Perform performance evaluations and recommend improvements for team efficiency.
  • Maintenance & Repairs:
    • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of cranes, heavy equipment, and related machinery.
    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
    • Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime.
    • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including parts used and labor hours.
  • Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
    • Conduct safety audits and ensure that the team follows safe work practices, including lockout/tagout procedures.
    • Monitor the condition of tools and equipment to ensure they are safe for use.
  • Inventory & Parts Management:
    • Order and manage spare parts and equipment inventory to ensure the timely availability of critical components.
    • Maintain an organized inventory system and track usage of parts and tools.
    • Work with vendors and suppliers to source high-quality parts at competitive prices.
  • Equipment Performance Monitoring:
    • Monitor the performance of cranes and heavy machinery, ensuring they meet operational requirements and efficiency standards.
    • Identify areas for performance improvements and recommend upgrades or replacements as necessary.
    • Collaborate with engineers or external experts for complex diagnostics or specialized repair needs.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
    • Provide regular maintenance and performance reports to management.
    • Document repair and maintenance procedures, ensuring all records are up to date.
    • Assist in the preparation of equipment maintenance schedules and work plans.
